An Honest Review: The Handlebar... we had heard about it. We have known about it. Yet, it took us a bit of time to visit this gem. We decided to give it a try right before going to see the Chicago Blackhawks play the Calgary Flames. We were super impressed. Handlebar hosts more than just vegan food, including vegetarian and also pescatarian options. Of course, we stuck with the vegan options. Let's waste no more time- on to the food!
We started our night with a Handlebar Mule and a Handle-rita. Both drinks were very good, and strong. Luckily, the Cauliflower Wingz that we ordered absorbed a lot of the alcohol in our stomachs. Those wings were fantastic! They brought me back to my childhood, with a classic buffalo sauce and vegan ranch on the side with sliced celery and carrots. Deliciousness! For the main dishes, mushroom sandwiches were the main course for us. I had never tried Hen of the Woods mushrooms, and this was the perfect opportunity. Both the Nashville Hot Fried "Chicken and Fried "Chicken" Patty Melt are made with Hen of the Woods mushrooms- and wow, they are amazing. Along with our chosen sides, the Vegan Dream Mac & Cheese (which was truly dreamy and creamy) and the Garlic Mashed Potatoes, we were in vegan heaven. For dessert, we ordered the Pina Colada Pies. These were AMAZING. Drizzled in a sweet syrup, powdered with sugar, stuffed with Pina Colada flavored vegan ice cream and coated in a warm, doughy yet crispy shell... wow. 10/10! We loved everything so much, and we are excited to go back! The Blackhawks also beat the Flames that night, so it was an excellent night for us all around. If you are in Chicago, I definitely recommend a visit to the Handlebar for their vast and flavorful selection of vegan cuisine.
