Mis Tacones - Portland, Oregon

Visited on 06/03/2023

An Honest Review: Mis Tacones... what are the words to describe such a magical place to eat (besides magical)? Authentic, delicious, mouth-watering, beautiful, impressive. Those are just the first few words that came to mind. I could also describe Mis Tacones as energizing, creative, colorful, happy, and uplifting. The artwork itself blew me away before I had the chance to try the food. A beautiful, joyful woman was behind the bar, dancing with entering customers as she shook around a drink shaker. Everyone was smiling, even the chefs in the back. I simply couldn't wait to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere, the drinks, and the food. The sun outside was shining, and the day could not have been more beautiful for us to visit and feast.

We started off with two drinks; I ordered a Guava Margarita, and my boyfriend ordered a homemade Passionfruit drink. The drinks were strong, and gosh darn they were so good. The quality of the ingredients were evident for both drinks, and the amount of alcohol in the margarita allowed me to sip on it the whole meal. When the food came, we fell absolutely in love. We ordered the Elote Empanada, the Torta, and some Al Pastor and Asada tacos. The empanada was rich, flavorful, and was on point with the textures of the shell and the filling. I really appreciated the unique take on the corn tortilla and the ingredients used for the entire dish. My boyfriend enjoyed his tacos- especially the homemade tortillas, and the vegan meat that Mis Tacones used in both the Asada and Al Pastor tacos. I had the Torta to myself. This was my first torta in my entire life, and wow... I am so happy that I had this one at Mis Tacones, first! It was so yummy. The beans, the meat, and the veggies were all fresh. The bread was soft and moist, and crusty on the outside. Inside the beautiful bread, the light refried beans were shmeared gently, gluing the vegan meat and fresh veggies in place perfectly. That sandwich did not last long at all. For dessert, we grabbed some delicious paletas from the freezer, brought to us by Ice Queen. Ice Queen is a woman-owned vegan ice cream company in Portland, Oregon. My Mangonada Paleta was amazing. It was sweet, savory, and had that salty lime flavor we all crave. We sat outside on the beautiful benches of Mis Tacones and enjoyed our Paletas in the sun. My boyfriend bought a Chocolate Paleta, and it went in his mouth before I could catch a good picture. Right before we left, we noticed a line of customers in line to order a Mangonada. I had to get one, so I did, and asked that the alcohol be left out. This Mangonada was so powerful! It was like an acid trip, but solely for my tongue. It was super bitter, fruity, and spicy. A unique combo, and I loved it. It was finished by the time we got to our rental.

Smiles were abundant, the drinks were strong, and the food was delicious. The service was personal, and top-notch for a super busy vegan Mexican restaurant. Overall, Mis Tacones was a super positive experience for the both of us. 10/10; we would go back when we visit Portland, Oregon again. We just may be there again next year in 2024!
